Championship leader Kimi Antonelli echoed George Russell's concerns over the growing threat posed by Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari in the title fight. The Mercedes driver singled out the seven-time world champion as one of his main rivals, with Hamilton arriving in Austria on the back of his maiden Ferrari victory, secured two weekends ago in Barcelona. Hamilton heads to the Austrian Grand Prix carrying plenty of momentum after his breakthrough Ferrari victory in Barcelona. The seven-time world champion not only claimed his first win in red, but also took a significant chunk out of Antonelli's championship lead. With the gap now down to 41 points following the Mercedes driver's retirement in Spain, Hamilton remains an outsider in the title race, but the prospect of a genuine championship challenge is becoming increasingly realistic.
Speaking to GPBlog among others, Antonelli admitted Hamilton's recent form makes him a particularly dangerous rival in the championship battle. The Italian highlighted the Ferrari driver's vast experience at the front of the field, noting that competitors who have fought for titles and victories over many years are always difficult to beat.
"Lewis is in great form and for sure he's smelling the possibility of winning and fighting for the championship. So for sure, it's a tough one to deal with. To be fair with everyone else, I think if it would be Max, it would be the same. Lando, George, I think everyone. When you have a driver with so much experience and they've been in that situation many times, they're always going to be tough to deal with.
However, Antonelli stressed that the battle remains wide open, pointing out that there are still plenty of races remaining and warning against ruling out other contenders, including Verstappen, whose late-season resurgence last year proved how quickly the championship picture can change.
"For sure, Lewis, as I said, is in great form and it's going to be tough because he's been driving super well. Barcelona, I think, his last stint was very impressive. And he's just been feeling well with the car recently. Plus Ferrari, they've improved their package even further. It's going to be a battle, but I wouldn't write off anyone else as well because of course now in the fight it's mainly me, Lewis and George, but you never know. Look at Max last year, he came back out of nowhere and there's still so many races left and anything can happen.".
Russell labels Hamilton and Ferrari 'a huge threat' in clear title fight warning
George Russell believes Hamilton's recent resurgence is proof of how fine the margins are in
Formula 1, arguing that success depends on every aspect of a team's package working in harmony. The Mercedes driver pointed to the complexity of modern
F1 cars and suggested that Hamilton's recent performances show he never lost his ability, despite criticism over the past two seasons.
Russell added that Hamilton now appears fully comfortable with Ferrari's package, allowing him to consistently extract its potential. While he maintained that Antonelli remains the benchmark in the championship thanks to his impressive consistency, he admitted Ferrari are rapidly emerging as a major contender and warned that Hamilton is leading the Scuderia's charge back into the title battle.

"You need yourself, your team, the setup, the understanding of the tyres, everything just to click. And when it clicks, you fly. As he said, 'it's beautiful'. And that's where he is at the moment. And for sure, he is a big threat. Ferrari are a huge threat. Kimi is still very much the driver out front and his performance really incredibly and consistently. But Ferrari feel like they're coming and Lewis is at the forefront of that."
