Alonso: ‘Otherwise everyone in the penalty area handballs it’

Fernando Alonso is not satisfied with the way the race committee handles the rules. The Spaniard is in favour of applying rules more quickly, he said in conversation with Motorsport-total.com.

The Alpine driver had to deal with Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi behind him during the United States Grand Prix. The Finn soon managed to overtake him, but it was not done in a lawful manner. As a result, Alpine sports director Alan Permane got into a heated argument with race director Michael Masi.

Both men failed to understand each other's opinion. Permane was among others clear that he thought Räikkönen should give back his place. According to Alonso, the FIA can avoid the discussion in the future if it is clearer with the rules.

"I don't think we need anything new. The rules are clear. But we also need to enforce them," stated Alonso, who looks at the football game. "In football, if you play the ball in the penalty area with your hand, you get a penalty. There is no need to clarify the rules. You just have to make the decision and say it's a penalty. Otherwise everyone in the penalty area plays the ball with their hand."
