Alonso offers Formula 1 hope: 'It's good to know'

Fernando Alonso put in a sterling performance at the Qatar Grand Prix, finishing third. It was the first time he had been on the stage in years. David Coulthard expects that this is just the beginning of the return of the Spaniard.

Alonso said after the third podium finish in Qatar that he hopes Alpine can compete for the top places in the coming years. Coulthard will follow this with great interest, he told Channel 4. "It's good for Formula 1 to know that Fernando still has the same speed and the same hunger," he said.

Alpine delivers great team performance

In addition to Alonso's strong performance, Alpine are also having a good season as a team. The French racing team is in fifth place in the Constructors' Championship and looks to keep ahead of rival Alpha Tauri for the rest of the season.

"The result was only due to the special style of the car, which adapted to a smoother and faster track," Coulthard pointed to Qatar. "This performance will therefore take some pressure off the team. But if you discount Ocon's success in Budapest, this season has been turbulent for Alpine anyway."
