Fernando Alonso started the Turkish Grand Prix hopeful, but things soon went wrong for the Spaniard. The Alpine driver collided with Mick Schumacher, for which he apologizes in conversation with Motorsport.com.
The Spaniard seemed to be on his way to a great end of the GP-weekend, but nothing was further from the truth. After Pierre Gasly collided with him at the first corner, Alonso went off track. He was able to continue the race and had to start from the back to try and get back into the points. However, things went wrong again, but this time it was his fault.
Alonso was a bit too eager to overtake drivers and hit Schumacher who spun as well. This resulted in a five-second penalty and Alonso crossed the line in sixteenth place.

Alonso apologises

The experienced driver knows full well that he made a wrong assessment, he revealed. "I thought I was wrong. It was a late overtaking attempt, but then we hit each other. Then unfortunately he spun and I got a penalty. I take the blame of course. I'm sorry for the collision."
