Fernando Alonso finished in eighth place after a chaotic Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. The two-time world champion was also praised by Oscar Piastri after the chequered flag.
Amid Aston Martin's difficulties this season, the Silverstone-based team had a positive result last Sunday, as Alonso finished inside the points for the third time this year.
At the Sepang International Circuit, the Spaniard crossed the finish line in eighth place, which was his best result in 2026, after he finished inside the top 10 in Monaco and the Netherlands. It came after a chaotic race, which was first delayed by severe weather conditions and then by a software issue.
Alonso also received a new nickname from McLaren's Piastri. After the race, over team radio, the Australian's race engineer, Tom Stallard, shared the results with the driver. He then added: "You heard that right, Alonso P8."
Piastri responded with saying: "Well, [he is] always the master of chaos."

'Alonso set for a spectacular new adventure alongside Formula 1'

Ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, Alonso confirmed that he will remain in Formula 1 with Aston Martin for the 2027 season as well.
He said: "I'm very happy to sign a new contract with Aston Martin Aramco. I took my time to make this decision, but racing is my life, my passion, and I know I still have the speed and determination to compete at the highest level. I'm committed for the long term with this team and to helping us succeed.
"I truly believe in what we are building: we have strong leadership, incredible people, partners and facilities. I look forward to making more memories on the racetrack in front of the passionate fans. Their energy creates an atmosphere that inspires me and is what makes our sport special."

However, similarly to Max Verstappen, Alonso wants to take part in other motorsport categories as well. He has already hinted at doing endurance events, but he appears to be set for an adventure in rallying.
According to various sources in Spain, he is also set to return to the Dakar Rally during the winter of 2027. The Spaniard previously contested the 2020 edition of the famous rally, finishing 13th overall.
