Max Verstappen has a clear answer to Formula 1's issues with the current regulations.
The four-time world champion has been highly critical of the 2026 Formula 1 regulations and power units throughout the course of the season.
He has a clear answer to how to fix things: bring back the V8s. Speaking on the P1 with Matt & Tommy YouTube channel, he explained why it is better alternative on multiple levels
"Right now, change the engine back to a V8. It fixes so many things," he began. "A proper V8 is much better for in every single scenario, you know. So drivability, it's lighter, much more fun to race with. And if you need like a tiny battery for like a push to pass, so we also don't need the DRS anymore. That's fine."
Verstappen does not rule out having a bit of battery, but highlighted that drivers' skills needs to create overtakes. He continued: "Like a little power boost. Something that is powerful enough to generate an overtake, but at the end of the straight that you need to go for a move, you know, under braking.

"Now sometimes with the SM, but that is of course more dependent on the battery state, but before with DRS, sometimes it's also way too powerful in places.
"In my ideal world, V8, V10, but I guess it will be more V8 nowadays. That will be great. A lot more fun to drive. And then if you add like a little battery for like a push to pass kind of thing, then I think it's fine."
Verstappen draws heavy conclusion after software issue: 'I hope there's a lesson learned'
Last weekend, the start of the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia was also delayed because of a sofware issue.
The Dutchman had a clear conclusion afterwards. "Yeah, what can you say? I mean, that’s not what you want, right, for the sport. Yeah, I hope there is a lesson learned."

Verstappen won his first race of the season at the Sepang International Circuit. Red Bull Racing hopes to build on that momentum as the grid travels to Singapore this week.
