Romain Grosjean made his debut in IndyCar this year after a tumultuous end to his F1 career (he managed to jump out of his burning car at the very last moment during the Bahrain race). So far the Frenchman has achieved one pole position and two top-five finishes. However, a victory was not yet on the cards for Grosjean, who is currently 16th in the standings. It has to be said that Grosjean has not completed a full season in the American racing class.

A big day

Indeed, after his crash in Bahrain, the former Haas driver decided not to put his family through driving on the fearsome oval tracks. However, Grosjean may be changing his mind. He is due to complete a test at the Gateway circuit south of Indianapolis to see if it can change his mind. "It's a big day, my first oval test, pretty excited about it and I have to say I feel like a rookie for once," Grosjean said via Instagram.

"It's going to be all brand new. I know my engineer Olivier [Boisson] and Dale [Coyne] and everyone are going to make it good for me and make it as smooth a day as possible. There's obviously still a lot to learn, but I'm looking forward to it," Grosjean said. Who else but Marcus Ericsson, the man Grosjean allegedly hit in Baku, has some tips for his colleague: "An oval is definitely very different and it took me some time to get used to it. The speeds are so high, I didn't feel confident turning the wheel! I was just afraid the thing would spin and spin."

The Swedish former FormulaOne driver says to The-Race.com: "I think that was the most important thing for me to learn, to trust your car. That was the most important thing. On a normal track, you can drive around a bad car. But on an oval you can never do that, you're only as good as the car you're in."
