Hamilton: "At testing we thought we'd be further behind"

Lewis Hamilton had a very difficult start to the season at the winter test two weeks ago. During the weekend in Bahrain, it became clear that he was feeling better and better in the W12. But that wasn't enough to beat Verstappen in the end.

"Congratulations to Max, he did such a great job. He was so fast on that last lap," said a visibly satisfied Hamilton about his second-place finish.

"I absolutely gave it everything on that last lap but unfortunately it wasn't good enough. Everyone at the factory really did such an incredible job for us to be closer to Red Bull. At testing, we thought we'd be further behind," said the seven-time world champion.
