After nine years, Friday was finally the day that we saw the name Schumacher as a permanent driver again during an official Formula 1 session. Mick Schumacher drove the morning session for Haas F1 in Bahrain.

The son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher says he was happy to be back in an F1 car, but had hoped for more laps. "It would have been great to get those laps in that we lost sitting in the garage due to the hydraulic issue. Fortunately, we got a few laps in at the end", he revealed on the website of his employer.

Every lap is important

"I was happy to take them, happy to be in the car, and happy to push at times and try some things. Conditions weren’t great with a sandstorm coming in, but it was still valuable time in the car", Schumacher revealed.

He also says that it can feel quite different in the car from corner to corner, which doesn't make it any easier. "F1 cars these days are very wind-affected, any little gust of wind sets off the car massively," he concludes. Schumacher will be back in the VF21 tomorrow, sharing the day with teammate Nikita Mazepin.
