Stefano Domenicali has been the CEO of Formula 1 since the beginning of the year. Despite the short time he has been in charge, he is already full of ideas. Several of those plans are already being embraced by various teams. The Italian also explained how he values problems outside the sport.

Domenicali mentioned to Corriere della Sera the similarity that basketball and Formula 1 seem to have regarding sensitive issues. “I think F1 and basketball have shown the same sensitivity on issues that affect the lives of all of us.”

Drivers clear of their role

The former Ferrari team boss believes there is a role for drivers here too. “I'm thinking of figures who belong to racing and who, at the same time, can represent universal values, so as to make our platform more attractive to present and future partners.”

The Italian newspaper then asked whether a champion like Hamilton thus outweighs a Ferrari struggling to win. To this Domenicali replies: "The Ferrari adventure is of interest to the entire sporting public, myself included. Hamilton, who is aiming to become the only driver to win eight titles and in the meantime communicates his ideas, touches particular chords and attracts people who are more distant from competitive racing. That's why I'm going to meet all the drivers: it's important that each of them understands the importance of his role not only as a professional, but as a man who cares about what's around him.”
