Last year, Formula 1 was not only about racing but also about diversity. The #WeRaceAsOne campaign was launched in June 2020 and the 2020 season was all about unity. After one season of racing with the campaign, F1 has decided to continue with the #WeRaceAsOne campaign next season, but without the rainbow logo.

Next season, the focus will not only be on the diversity in Formula 1, but also on the sustainability of the sport. F1 still has the goal of being fully sustainable by 2030 and that is what they will be working on in the coming years. “Our WeRaceAsOne platform was very effective at raising the awareness of socially important issues and our steadfast commitment to make a positive change”, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali explained in a Formula 1 press release.

Setting goals for sustainability and diversity

"While our commitment through words to tackling issues like sustainability and diversity in our sport is important, it is our actions that we will be judged on. We have already made good progress on our sustainability plans and you will see strong actions being executed this year across all three of our WRAO pillars. We know we must continue to move forward on these issues and the whole sport is united in doing this in the months and years ahead.”

The FOM explains that in the coming years they will work on sustainable fuel for sustainable engines. This will have an impact on F1 and on the entire car market. Furthermore, F1 is taking action by working together with underrepresented groups within the F1 paddock. They do this to give everyone an equal chance at a career in Formula 1.
