Piquet hits back hard at accusation about her children: 'You lack insight'

A comment appeared under the Instagram post calling out Piquet for the time she spends away from her daughters. "More parties, more time away from your daughters, and more time with friends. ‘Time passes differently in New York,’" the comment read. The Brazilian decided to respond herself. "Imagine thinking an Instagram post gives you insight into how much time a mother spends with her children," she replied.

She then made it clear that she disagrees with the notion that motherhood means she has to put her own activities aside. "PS: Being a mother doesn’t mean you can’t have a life, friends, or a career. Strange that this still needs to be explained." It appears she left her reply up for a few hours before deleting both comments.

Her response aligns with what Piquet elaborated on earlier this year about how she and Verstappen combine family life with their careers. On the Not Alone Podcast, she explained that she regularly turns down jobs to be at home or to travel with Verstappen, but that the support in their relationship goes both ways.

The 37-year-old said at the time that Verstappen actually encourages her to seize her own opportunities. "He always encourages me to get out there and do what I need to do," she said. As an example, she mentioned a period when she stayed in the United States with her eldest daughter, Penelope, while Verstappen stayed home with their daughter, Lily. According to Piquet, that went smoothly.

"I’m proud of the partner I am, the mother I am, and also of who I am as a person," Piquet said. "We all fulfill different roles. Sometimes I have to be supportive and, for example, cancel work because I need to travel with him or want to stay home so the children aren’t completely alone." Piquet is still a model and an ambassador for various brands, but she doesn’t mind turning down a photoshoot now and then.

She also emphasized that outside of his Formula 1 commitments, Verstappen prefers to be at home. According to Piquet, that gives her more room to focus on her own work and appointments as well. She pointed to the Miami Grand Prix, where her own schedule with events was almost as full as Verstappen’s. A few days alone with the kids is something Verstappen can easily handle: "Go ahead and do your own thing."
