Guenther Steiner, team boss of Haas, also sees new possibilities because of the coronavirus. The Austrian states in an interview with Motorsport-Magazin.com that he not only sees drawbacks in the consequences of the coronavirus. Several new ideas now come up that can change Formula 1 enormously.

"The budget cap that Formula 1 wants to set is, as it is now planned, too high for the medium and long term," says Steiner. "Everything has changed. The economy won't recover as fast as we all want it to. The money will just be less in the coming years. That's why you have to adapt and not dream of what it was like before the crisis."

Spending a lot of money makes no sense

"Just join in, be three or four seconds slower and spend a lot of money makes no sense. The top teams need us to fill the field and that's why we need to agree on something where it's possible for all of us to race," Steiner continues. Haas is one of the teams that is lagging behind, so he will benefit a lot from that budget cap.

Haas isn't the only team that wants the budget cap even lower. McLaren has already indicated that it would like to have the maximum amount lower. However, Ferrari is strongly against this. In the end a compromise will have to be made in order to come to a deal. "Everyone knows what the world is like at the moment, but everyone is still trying to get the best out of the situation", Steiner concludes.
