As a result of the coronavirus, sports events worldwide are cancelled, including testing of the W Series. The Championship for women drivers is scheduled to start on May 29 and 30 in Russia and although the start of the season is not yet under pressure, the planned test days have been cancelled.

The beginning of May

The W Series was supposed to start testing at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Spain in early May, but that test has now been cancelled where the start of the season is scheduled to continue at the end of May. The reason for cancellation is a little different than the reason given for other sporting events, limiting the risks for all involved.

"We're in uncharted territory, in a situation beyond our control," said Catherine Bond, the W Series CEO at Autosport.com.

"The need for social distancing, together with restricted travel, is tough for many businesses, including motorsport. We send support and love to all our drivers, staff, partners, fans and media in these difficult times."

Bond also states that they are in close contact with the DTM and Formula 1 on the weekends in which the W Series are held at the same locations as races from the aforementioned championships. In this, they take a wait-and-see approach, as they are guided by the organization of the DTM and Formula 1.
