Racing Point might be changing their name at the end of the season, but some people in the paddock have already changed their name. As their car looks similar to last year's F1 championship-winning car, they often get called Pink Mercedes.
Up and down the grid, there's been some complaining about their design. After six days of Formula 1 winter testing, Racing Point look like serious challengers for the best of the rest position. Some pundits even questioned whether the Silverstone-based team are quicker than Ferrari.
The team of Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll have been given some stick for the design copying, but technical director Andy Green has reiterated that the process is legal.
“What we’ve done is completely legal, what we’ve done is racing with the rules that are written. That’s the idea of the game, you are given a set of rules and you go as fast as you can," he told Crash.net.
“That’s what we’re doing. If other teams haven’t taken the route that we’ve taken for reasons unknown to us, then that’s their decision. They had the same opportunity to do exactly what we did but they elected not to, for reasons I don’t know. It’s something that we’ve been wanting to do for a very long time and haven’t had the budget to do."
