Guenther Steiner has responded to claims from Daniel Ricciardo that Kevin Magnussen deserved more than just a warning for his role during their battle at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Haas team principal feels the TV coverage would have been a lot more boring.

Ricciardo was trying to overtake the Haas driver during the race at the Hungaroring with the Dane making several moves in the braking zone preventing Ricciardo from making the move. Magnussen eventually finished one place ahead of the Renault driver in 13th place but not before race control had warned Haas of his moves.

Ricciardo felt hard done by the decision to only warn Magnussen but Steiner has played it down insisting the tv coverage would have been a lot more boring.

"The race management said he had to stop changing his line while braking and that was all," Steiner said as quoted by Motorsport.com.

"It was a nice battle for thirteenth and fourteenth place, otherwise the TV broadcast would have been rather boring.

“We decided to run the risk of getting a punishment or being called up by the stewards because we are here to race. I don't think it was dangerous.

"The duel didn't go anywhere so it was a nice show anyway," Steiner added.
