Honda boss Toyoharu Tanabe has admitted that the new Honda upgrades brought to the Austrian Grand Prix are not as powerful as the manufacturer had hoped.

Alexander Albon will be starting Sunday's race from the back of the grid as Toro Rosso has fitted a new upgraded Honda power unit for the Anglo-Thai driver this weekend.

While the Japanese manufacturer has seen improvements both on the dyno and at the track, Tanabe admitted that the numbers were not as good as the team had hoped for.

"We could see some improvement in the data when we ran the lastest spec at the track," he said.

"And then, we compared to the dyno data and we see improvement trackside as well.

"But, on the other hand, the improvement is not significant, so as I mentioned before, when we introduced spec-3, there was a reliability and then a performance improvement – but the performance is not huge, which means we still keep pushing to perform well."
