George Russell has consistently outperformed his teammate, Robert Kubica this season at Williams and Jacques Villeneuve has suggested that the setup at Williams could suit the rookie better than Kubica.

Kubica has been beaten at every race this season by his teammate as well as never topping Russell in qualifying. The Pole made what was initially seen as a dream return but it is quickly turning into a nightmare as Williams lag behind the rest of the field.

At the recent race in Canada Kubica finished in 18th place whilst Russell finished in P16. Villeneuve suggested that the setup on offer at Williams is more suited to Russell which could be what is costing the one-time race winner.

“No idea because I’m not in the team, but I would say in F1 where the cars are very similar it’s unlikely," Villeneuve told Sky Italia when asked about Russell being the better driver.

"Maybe the setup is better suited to Russell and not Robert. You don’t see everything from the outside.

"The only thing that matters is that Robert is clearly slower than his teammate, who’s a rookie.
