Lando Norris picked up his first haul of Formula 1 points after finishing 6th in Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix. The young Brit was buzzing as he climbed out of the cockpit and he suggests his race could have been much better.

"P6, first points in Formula 1! It's not like we scraped into P10 or P9 or anything, we had very good pace today," an excited Norris told Formula 1.

"It could have been a little bit better. I had a little bit of contact at the start, which put me down a bit, but made it a bit more fun, I think. I could do some racing for once - well, for the first time this year because Australia was too hard to overtake. P6 was a massive bonus."

McLaren seemed strong all weekend, and their overall result could have been much better if it wasn't for the contact Carlos Sainz had at the start of the race. Sainz also looked strong in Australia but missed out on a good finish after an engine issue.

Norris believes the car is performing well but identifies where the team need to find improvements.

“We're not so good in the corners and quite good in the straights. It’s quite simple, every team knows that. It obviously gives us a good chance to overtake if we manage the tyres well, which is a good positive compared to last year. I look forward to some tracks which might suit us better than here, but overall I'm happy with P6," he added.
