Ricciardo ready to play his part in Renault push

Renault finished fourth in the Constructors’ championship in 2018 finishing comfortably ahead of the midfield but still way off the top three however Daniel Ricciardo is confident the team can continue their good progress and close the gap.

Ricciardo signed for Renault having left Red Bull at the end of 2018 after five seasons racing for the team. He already has experience with Renault engines after all his seasons at Red Bull were spent with a Renault power unit. Ricciardo is aware of the gap to the top but wants to establish their position as the best of the rest.

"The positive thing is that we feel that there is more elongation than with the others,” said Ricciardo in an interview on motorsport.com.

“I remain optimistic and thankful that we can find even more in terms of development during the season to keep closing that gap.”

Renault were helped by the collapse of Force India last season, but now with a world-class driver in Daniel Ricciardo, the team can look to cement their place and the Australian is aware of the role he has to play.

“I think the philosophy surrounding the upgrades we get this year is quite different, the plan and the structure are going to change, what are we doing and when, I will play a role in that process and hopefully we stay ahead,” Ricciardo said at pre-season testing.
