Marko responds to Perez rumours: 'Took a lot of pressure off today'

With his contract extension, Sergio Perez thought to be rid of the constant questions about his future at Red Bull Racing. But over the weekend of the British Grand Prix, the media once again openly questioned whether the Mexican would continue to be Max Verstappen's teammate in '25. Indeed, Germany's Auto, Motor und Sport reported that Red Bull is considering giving Daniel Ricciardo another chance at Red Bull; at least if the Australian excels in the next three races and Perez disappoints instead.
It is no secret that every Formula 1 contract includes the necessary clauses. With that, a contract is not always a contract; it can be torn up just like that. When asked by GPblog on whether Perez is under pressure again and perhaps a departure clause is going to be triggered, Helmut Marko said, "I think he took a lot of pressure off today."
In FP1, Perez stayed aside - Isack Hadjar was given the chance - and in FP2, the Mexican managed to set the third fastest time. Only the McLarens were clearly faster. Perez was quicker than Verstappen, though. It seems a bit early to say that Perez has taken the pressure off after one session on a Friday, Marko also realised a little later: "Let's talk about this again after Sunday," Red Bull's external advisor said.

Perez only in action once a day?

Nevertheless, Marko could not help but be satisfied with his seasoned driver. "It was good, very good. So maybe we will only give him one session a day," the Austrian concluded with a quip.
