Coulthard would choose these drivers if Verstappen was not an option

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were teammates in Formula 1 before. The multiple world champions both competed for McLaren in 2007, and that did not exactly end well. David Coulthard would like to see the two drivers compete against each other again in equal material.

In the podcast Formula for Success, Coulthard was asked what his ideal team would look like in Formula 1 at the moment (if Max Verstappen is not allowed to be chosen). "I would go for Lewis Hamilton anyway," he is said. "If money wasn't an issue and all that sort of thing, I would do one of two things."

Coulthard's two options

Option 1: "This is fantasy Formula One, I'd put Fernando alongside him just to see. When we ask the questions about the great rivalries, they didn't really get along when they were teammates back in the McLaren days the first time. But how would it be now? One is 38, 39 in the case of Lewis and the other's 42."

Option 2: "But if it wasn't someone like a Fernando, I'd go for a young, developing rookie to learn off of Lewis for the future. So that could be an Oscar [Piastri], it could be a Lando [Norris], it could be a George [Russell], Charles [Leclerc]. They're all great drivers."
