Hulkenberg welcomes "super driver" Ricciardo to Renault

Nico Hülkenberg has a new teammate at Renault next season in Daniel Ricciardo, and the German has acknowledged that the Aussie is a "super driver" when asked about it.

Hülkenberg must've been surprised when he read the news about Ricciardo while on his holiday in Mallorca. The German already has fierce competition from his current teammate Carlos Sainz, but it's expected that Ricciardo will provide that extra bit of class to the French team.

"Daniel is a super driver, but I do not have to hide and I accept the challenge," The Hulk told Bild while on his holiday.

"I think that it's absolutely positive."

More than anything, Hülkenberg thinks that the signing of Ricciardo shows how ambitious Renault really are. Ricciardo has often stated that he wanted to go to a team where he had the best chance to compete for a championship, which could imply that there are good times ahead for the French team.

"It shows how serious Renault are, launching a big three attack on Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull."

One of the questions that arises from the signing of Ricciardo is whether the Aussie will be the clear number one of the team or not. Renault, much like Red Bull, let their drivers fight, and don't pick a side like Ferrari or Mercedes do between their drivers. Can Hülkenberg keep Danny Ric behind him, or will the German be in his shadow?
