Pat Symonds says that F1 "should really think about" allowing teams to change how many drivers they are allowed to enter.

As it stands, teams are only allowed up to a maximum of two cars racing at a time and one-car entries are only under special circumstances: e.g. an injury to a driver.

F1's technical director, Pat Symonds, believes that the possibility of a change to this rule should definitely be considered.

"It hasn't been on the agenda," Symonds said when speaking at a Motorsport Industry Association conference last week.

"(But) it's a good point and probably at our next meeting, it's something we will debate."

Symonds was appointed in his role when Liberty Media took over proceedings at F1, and has said before that the sport are hoping to increase the amount of teams that are competing from 20.

"What has been considered is what is the ideal number of cars," he said.

"More in the context of 'should we introduce more teams to Formula One?'"

Symonds also said that teams are reluctant for this change as they think it could change their power in the sport.

"I think at the moment one of the problems that F1 has suffered from is that the teams have probably held too much power," Symonds said.

"It's a little bit of 'turkeys voting for Christmas' sometimes.

"I guess they'll be worried that if there was a smaller number of teams with a big power base, that's probably not conductive to change and we all need to change and evolve as our sport changes, as the world around us changes."
