Little sympathy for Verstappen's 'short-sighted move' in Brazil

The majority in the Formula One paddock seem to be puzzled by Max Verstappen's action at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Sky Sports pundit Karun Chandhok understands little of it. The Dutchman may regret his decision in the future when he again needs help from Sergio Perez.

A bizarre situation ensued when Verstappen refused to let his teammate pass for sixth position in the closing stages of the race. The Red Bull Racing driver tried to overtake Fernando Alonso for P5, but when that failed, Verstappen was given the team order to let Perez pass. The Mexican is still fighting for P2 in the championship with Charles Leclerc. Now the two drivers head to Abu Dhabi with an equal number of points.

"I don't understand it. He's won the World Championship and it's short-sighted. He might need Checo's help next year, he needed him last year in Abu Dhabi. I go back to Senna, he gave up a win in Japan in 1991 to his teammate because he knew wanted the loyalty," Chandhok told Sky Sports broadcast.

'Short-sighted move by Verstappen'

The analyst hopes the team can resolve the situation internally. After the race, Verstappen and Perez have already spoken to each other about the altercation. The Dutchman revealed that he will help his teammate in Abu Dhabi.

"It's a short-sighted move there. Today, was a racing driver thinking about himself and putting a mark in the ground saying I'm the number one driver in the team. This was much about him establishing himself as the number one driver in the team. Horner and Marko have to manage it. The team is bigger than the drivers," said the former F1 driver.
