Pierre Gasly had to suddenly jump out of his car in the second free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix when the area behind his cockpit caught fire. For the Frenchman, however, it was soon clear what was going on, he told Sky Sports.

"It obviously wasn’t ideal to have the small fire when we connected the fuel breather, as we lost some running," Gasly told. "But it was easily put out, ultimately it just burnt some paint, and we could get back."

Gasly enjoys circuit in Singapore

About his performance, AlphaTauri hardly had anything to complain about. Gasly managed to finish ninth and 14th respectively in the first two sessions, allowing the formation to hope for a place in the top ten. For that, however, AlphaTauri still has a long way to go.

Gasly enjoyed the street circuit in Singapore. "I’m loving this track, it’s a really special place and very technical," said the driver, who is reportedly on the verge of signing a contract with Alpine. Nyck de Vries would then make the switch to AlphaTauri.
