As an eight-time Grand Prix winner, Daniel Ricciardo really knows how to drive a Formula One car, but his time at McLaren has been disappointing. At the British Grand Prix, the 33-year-old's performance was once again nothing to write home about.

The hope was that Ricciardo would get everything right in his second season with the Woking-based stable, but the rule changes in motorsport's premier class have not helped him. On the contrary, the gap to team-mate Lando Norris seems to have widened compared to 2021.

Bad weekend for Ricciardo

At the British GP Ricciardo crossed the line in thirteenth place. Only fourteen drivers reached the finish and so the Australian's performance can be called poor. Norris finished sixth on the Silverstone circuit. On the McLaren website Ricciardo spoke about his experiences.

"The car just didn’t really seem to operate at the same level of grip as the others. I could just feel it through the tyres as well, trying to carry speed. It was just a bit odd, so we have a bit of investigating to do. Then we had an issue with DRS which meant I couldn’t use it after lap 31 which was also a bit of a shame. Obviously, it’s tough to overtake with that as well – but simply we weren’t really quick enough anyway today. It was a bit of a lonely afternoon," Ricciardo said.
