Alexander Albon returned to Formula 1 this season through Williams. The Thai had yet to leave Red Bull Racing at the end of 2020, but is relieved that his current team is giving him another chance. He tells that in an interview with Formula1.com.

Albon was known as a great talent when Red Bull put him alongside Max Verstappen during 2019. However, it proved to be too quick a move for the driver, as in the year and a half that followed Albon failed to reach his level.

Red Bull then decided to part with him, after which he did some behind-the-scenes work for the racing stable in 2021. However, he knew all too well that he was keen to return to Formula 1 and was therefore delighted when Williams made a call to him to succeed the departing George Russell.

"While I was at the track all through last year I wasn’t racing," Albon recalled. "The hunger was definitely building up all through the season. I was raring to get going and the [Williams] car felt great in Barcelona. It felt great to be back."
