Max Verstappen arrived at his home race, perhaps the last of his F1 career, with a new contract extension, after Thursday's bombshell announcement that the Dutchman will be staying at Red Bull until 2030. Red Bull have also had to make changes to their lineup this weekend, with Liam Lawson filling in for the injured Isack Hadjar, while Yuki Tsunoda returns to sister team Racing Bulls.

Kimi Antonelli leads the Drivers' standings by 50 points ahead of Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, while his Mercedes teammate George Russell sits a further nine points behind in P3. Despite reliability concerns, Mercedes restart the 2026 campaign in a strong position in the Constructors', 72 points ahead of challengers Ferrari. However, third-placed McLaren could be in the process of another remarkable mid-season turnaround after Lando Norris' dominant victory last time out in Hungary.
There is also the distinct possibility that drivers face wet weather conditions for the first time in the 2026 cars this weekend. FP1 and SQ1 took place on a drying track and eyes will be on the sky for much of Saturday.
Both Ferrari drivers and Arvid Lindblad have also fitted a new exhaust system at Zandvoort, while Oscar Piastri is the only other driver to have taken a new MGU-K. None of them, however, are currently at risk of a grid penalty.
