After the free practice sessions, it was expected that the
McLaren drivers will fight for pole position in qualifying, and that turned out to be the case at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Oscar Piastri will start from P1 on the grid, with
Lando Norris lining up alongside the Australian. The second row of the grid consists of
Max Verstappen and
George Russell who set the exact same time in Q3. The two Ferrari drivers,
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will start from P5 and P7 respectively, as the two were separated by Kimi Antonelli.
With the long run into Turn 1 however, many can turn a good start into claiming the lead by the first corner. The previous season, Russell did so starting from the second row the grid, overtaking Norris and Verstappen around the outside.
However, there will a driver missing from the grid. Because of feeling pain in his hand,
Lance Stroll will not compete this afternoon. Read about why for example Aston Martin's reserve driver, Felipe Drugovich,
can't replace the Canadian and drive today here.
In terms of the championship standings, it is currently Oscar Piastri who leads with 161 points. Lando Norris has three less points, while Max Verstappen trails the Australian McLaren driver by 25 points.
In terms of the weather, no rain is expected today at the track near Montmeló.
