Welcome to GPblog's liveblog, keeping you updates with the latest and breaking news as we build up to Sunday's Miami Grand Prix. Stay tunned, as our very own Editor-in-Chief Tim Kraaij is in South Florida to catch all the biggest stories! After a month-long break in
Formula 1 due to the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, the competition returns this weekend with the Miami Grand Prix. During the break, the FIA and
F1 teams approved minor regulation tweaks to allow drivers to push flat-out in qualifying and improve safety. This weekend also features a Sprint format, meaning there will be just a single free practice session.
Still, there were drivers who still believe that more changes are needed to the current regulations. Four-time world champion Max Verstappen said: "I think that's already a huge step forward in terms of the communication. Of course, with the changes that are made, I think it's more like a tickle. Because at the end of the day, you know, for us it is a very complex and political sport. But I think everyone has tried their best to at least do something. But of course, it won't change the world."
Friday saw Charles Leclerc and Ferrari impress
during an extended 90-minute practice session, but it was Lando Norris and McLaren who sent an ominous message to the rest of the grid,
taking Sprint Qualifying pole with a stunning lap time.
Norris then continued that fine form to take Sprint Race victory, but Mercedes then answered back through championship leader Kimi Antonelli to
take pole position for Sunday's Grand Prix ahead of Verstappen and Leclerc.
