Since Max Verstappen made his debut in a Formula 1 race at the age of 17 the Dutchman has been setting all kinds of records. He was already the youngest driver to start a Grand Prix, the youngest driver to score points and the youngest driver ever to win a race. Last weekend Verstappen set another record.

Grand Slam

Verstappen dominated the race at the Red Bull Ring during the Austrian Grand Prix. Mercedes did not even come close to the speed of the Dutchman and his RB16B. This meant he could even make a second pitstop to set the fastest lap. Because he came out of his pit stop as the leader of the race and set the fastest lap of the race Verstappen won a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
In Formula 1, a Grand Slam is when a driver holds pole position, sets the fastest lap of the race and wins the race without ever relinquishing first place. Verstappen ticked all those boxes and is now the proud owner of yet another record.

Close in Abu Dhabi

Last season, Verstappen was close to winning his first Grand Slam at the last race in Abu Dhabi. There too Verstappen took pole position, drove in the lead from the start and thus took victory. Unfortunately it was just former teammate Daniel Ricciardo who managed to throw a spanner in the works by taking Max's fastest lap in the end.
