Will we soon see the same 'cape' at Red Bull as at Mercedes?

Red Bull Racing has announced that they are going to experiment with a so-called 'cape', reports the BBC. They are going to do this in the first few races of the season. With this Red Bull follows the design of Mercedes.

Cape

The 'cape' is the long flat piece of bodywork under the nose. The teams without the cape opt for the so-called 'J vane', which is so called because of the shape it assumes when hanging under the nose of the car.

The same work

These two aerodynamic gadgets perform broadly the same work, but there are some differences in the ways they work. Both help the airflow to the floor of the car. For example, Ferrari uses this 'J vane'.

So in the coming weekends we can expect Red Bull to come up with a concept similar to the one Mercedes has been using for a number of years.
