Former Formula 1 driver Nyck de Vries has been hit with a severe penalty during the Jeddah ePrix. During the first race of the current doubleheader in Jeddah, the former AlphaTauri driver could not get off the line. Mahindra Racing had to change the MGU (Motor Generator Unit) twice and the MCU (Motor Control Unit) in De Vries' car, which result in a 60-place (!) grid penalty, and he will have to serve a 10-second stop-and-go penalty as well.
While De Vries will definitely start from last place, his teammate Edoardo Mortara can enjoy the best spot on the grid after claiming pole position this afternoon.

Max Verstappen invited to drive at the Jeddah ePrix
During the first Bahrain winter test this week, Verstappen said the current generation of Formula 1 cars are like '
Formula E on steroids'.
The competition's CEO, Jeff Dodds, suggested that Verstappen come and join them in Jeddah instead.
He said:
"'You're in Bahrain, I'm in Jeddah, if you fancy coming here instead, I'll come and get you.' So I was being naughty when I messaged him." "Many of [the Formula E drivers] and many of the team principals contacted me to say it is a great opportunity for us.
"A lot of them are saying to me that it's great that he even references Formula E, because it's great for awareness."
