Michael Masi: "That will be a continuation of last year's principle"

FIA race director Michael Masi announces in the Sky Sports F1 Vodcast that Formula 1 does not intend to change the approach in terms of punishing drivers in 2020.

Masi thinks it's important for the drivers to be able to continue racing as they did in many beautiful battles last year, such as between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc during the Austrian and British Grand Prix. He doesn't want to punish the drivers to quick in more intense battles.

"In Austria, I think it will be more of a continuation of where we were with the 'let them race' principles towards the end of last year. I can't see anything changing dramatically", says Masi.

"And at the end of the day, we have 20 of the best drivers in the world. They're in Formula 1 for a reason. While they may not have been in a car of recent times, I don't think that's going to have a great deal of impact in their capabilities", continues Masi.

Michael Masi prefers to use the black and white flag. He compares the flag with a yellow card in football. First you get a warning and if you continue to commit offences you get penalized.
