Helmut Marko agrees with the conclusion that Lewis Hamilton is the driver who performed best in 2020. The Red Bull Racing advisor does, however, make an important comment. According to
Motorsport-Total.com Lewis Hamilton was the best driver of the season, followed by
Max Verstappen.
Daniel Ricciardo and
Sergio Perez took places three and four, while
Alexander Albon was only thirteenth. Marko is asked if he agrees.
"Yes, we agree," he responds in an interview with the German site. "However, I base my answer only on the Hamilton race in Turkey."
Hamilton has it easier
In Marko's view, Verstappen made his only mistake of the season on the
Istanbul Park circuit. Partly because of that mistake Hamilton managed to win the extremely wet Turkish Grand Prix.
Of the seventeen Grand Prix, Hamilton won a total of eleven in 2020. According to Marko, however, most of these victories are not so special: "Because we know that nothing can go wrong when you're leading with a Mercedes," according to the 77-year-old Austrian.
