Formula 1 has a new family member. There is nothing that could prevent MotoGP to the portfolio of Liberty Media - the owner of the commercial rights of Formula 1.
Liberty Media Corporation received final approval from the European Commission this Monday to acquire MotoGP from the current rights holder Dorna Sports. The deal is expected to be finalized by July 3, 2025, at the latest.
Liberty Media takes an 84% stake in MotoGP, while the management of MotoGP retains 16% of the company. The American company is thus the majority shareholder and has the most say over the sport.

MotoGP wants to benefit from Liberty Media's knowledge

MotoGP hopes and expects that Liberty Media will manage to grow the two-wheeled sport globally just as it successfully has done with Formula 1. In a press release, MotoGP states: “MotoGP is one of the most thrilling sports on Earth, and we look forward to accelerating the sport’s growth and expanding its reach to even more fans around the world."
"Liberty is the best possible partner for our sport and the entire MotoGP community, and we are excited to create even greater value for our fans, commercial partners and everyone competing.”
