Lewis Hamilton shared a cryptic post on his Instagram profile on Monday, hinting at an announcement coming on August 8th. But what could it be about? The seven-time world champion is coming off a bittersweet weekend in Belgium, having partly made up for the disastrous results in the sprint qualifying, sprint race, and Saturday afternoon's qualifying session.
The
Ferrari driver, who started the race from the pit lane, managed to climb back up to seventh place — thanks both to his undeniable skill in wet conditions and to Ferrari’s well-timed strategy during the switch to slick tyres.
It’s a result that nonetheless boosts morale ahead of the next race, which is just around the corner this week at the Hungaroring in Hungary.
Hamilton sparks curiosity with social media
In the meantime, however, Hamilton has been making headlines not just for his comeback drive in Belgium, but also for a cryptic post he shared on his Instagram account in the past few hours — a post that has sparked curiosity among fans.
“We’ve struck the match. Now follow the smoke,” reads the caption of the post — a line that has only fueled fans’ imagination as they try to figure out what it might be referring to.
In the short ten-second clip, Hamilton can be seen moving a series of photographs before striking a match on a box to end the video.
On the front of the box, the numbers “08/08” are clearly visible, hinting at an announcement set to arrive in ten days’ time.
