Leo Fornaroli won the sprint Formula 2 race in Spa, ahead of Victor Martins and Gabrielle Mini amid first lap chaos and a late safety car. How it happened
As Leo Fornarolli took the lead, Richard Verschoor coming out of the first corner took the normal racing line unawares perhaps of the two cars of Jak Crawford and Luke Browning on the outside, pushing both talents onto the gravel.
However, the Dutchman suffered damage as a result of the incident and going up Eau Rouge his MP Motorsport car spun. The damage was race ending.
Polesitter Alex Dunne then was P8 by lap 4, having made the most of his start.
Late pitstops and fight for P4 ensues
The race then entered a plateau with hardly any moves being performed on the track. However, on lap 12, Victor Martins took his ART around the outside of Amaury Cordeel's Rodin Motorsport for P2.
The Belgian driver then could not keep his car in control, crashing into the Frenchman and ending up in the gravel on home soil.
This incident prompted a round of pitstops as all drivers, but five, took a set of softs. For Red Bull junior,
Arvid Lindblad, this did not go as planned, with the British driver enduring a slow stop, as Campos Racing chose to double stack his and Josep Marti's cars.
Lindblad rejoined the race in P11, whilst his teammate overtook Cian Shields' AIX to take P5 and set off on the hunt for Oliver Goethe, Gabrielle Mini, Martins and leader Fornaroli.
Alex Dunne followed suit with two aggressive overtakes on Shields and Roman Stanek.
Having ran wide coming out of La Source, Marti nearly lost out to Dunne, with Stanek emerging as the winner making his way past Dunne into Les Combes.
Sami Meguetounif parked his car down the Kemmel straight prompting a safety car on lap 17 of 18, bringing the race to an early end.
