Ferrari keeps focus on F1 mission: 'No move to IndyCar for us'

The virtue cap is causing a number of problems for the top teams. Unlimited staff is a thing of the past and since the top teams are currently the only ones spending above the limit, they will also have to watch where they put their money. Red Bull Racing and Mercedes have already found a solution in another racing class, something Ferrari is not yet considering.

Red Bull will also race in the DTM next year, with Alexander Albon and Liam Lawson, while Mercedes is testing out Formula E with Stoffel Vandoorne and Dutchman Nyck de Vries. However, Mattia Binotto does not yet see Ferrari entering another racing class alongside F1. "For now we want to focus on our investments around Formula 1," the Italian explained at Speedweek.

The IndyCar has long seemed attractive to Ferrari and they have had discussions with its owner, Roger Penske. "The new engine regulations of 2022 would be a good reason to introduce a third engine manufacturer," Penske said. According to Binotto, that plan can now be binned.

"After a number of discussions, we have come to the conclusion that we will not be going to IndyCar in the coming years". Although the Ferrari team boss is ruling out a move to IndyCar for now, Binotto does not want to close the door and is keeping the door ajar for a possible future. "Maybe it will be possible over a longer period of time," the Italian concludes.
