Jenson Button has taken on a new challenge in 2021: Extreme E. He has started his own team, called JBXE, and besides being a team owner he is also a driver. He raced in the first X-Prix, but then handed his seat over to Rallycross driver Kevin Hansen.

Button still wants to learn

Extreme E is an all-new electric racing series where the teams consist of a male and female driver. The drivers must race their electric rally raid car through the most rugged terrain. The first race was held in the desert of Saudi Arabia and the championship ends in the southernmost tip of Argentina.
Button reveals that he is finding it terrifying to race the Extreme E car. "I'm definitely on the back foot but for me it's all about learning, I want to do stuff that is challenging," he explained in conversation with Press agency Reuters. "However scary it is, I still want to race the car."

"In an F1 car you kind of know the limits... With this thing, it can throw you through a bush. It might be OK but there might be a giant boulder on the other side. It's definitely a little bit scarier than F1," said Button. But the Briton does think the championship will be interesting for other manufacturers.
