According to Gerhard Berger Max Verstappen is the favourite to win the world title in 2022. The former Formula 1 driver may see an even better Verstappen this year compared to last season. That he sees Verstappen as the biggest contender also has to do with the fact that Charles Leclerc has less experience.
"He [Leclerc] made one or two mistakes this year that shouldn't happen when you're serious for the championship," Berger judged in the F1 Nation Podcast. The 62-year-old Austrian points to Leclerc's spin in the chicane at the Imola circuit as an example. "In Imola the chicane, he should finish take the points. This is where Lewis impresses me so much, Lewis is always there. Whenever the door is open, he is on the podium to take the points. Leclerc needs a bit of this experience in these areas."
Berger went on to say that he certainly sees someone in the young Monegasque for the future to become world champion in the premier class of motor sport. Leclerc possesses all the qualities needed to win a season in the future, according to the former team boss. This year, however, it is still a little too soon, according to Berger.

Ferrari not ready yet

The Maranello-based team has not competed for the world championship in recent years and that is a big disadvantage. Red Bull Racing will take last season's experience into the current fray and that will play into their hands. According to Berger, Ferrari 'needs one or two more years' before the team is really ready.
