Max Verstappen will have to wait and see whether he can also take part in the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring in 2027. Formula One Management is currently hard at work shaping the F1 calendar and cannot rule out scheduling a Grand Prix on the same weekend as the race on the Nordschleife, GPblog understands. Verstappen has set himself the goal of winning the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring at least once in his career. During his first participation last weekend, the four-time
Formula 1 world champion already seemed on course to make that dream come true, but in the final hours of the race, his Verstappen Racing Team suffered
a technical failure with the Mercedes. As a result, the GT car spent hours in the garage for repairs, causing the victory to slip from the hands of Verstappen and his teammates.
Verstappen wants to return to the Nürburgring
Although Verstappen did not make a firm commitment to take another shot in 2027, he did hint that he would love to come back. Much depends on how the Formula 1 calendar shapes up. After all, that is the most important thing for the Dutchman, and skipping a Grand Prix to do what is essentially a hobby race is impossible.
Verstappen can therefore only possibly take part again on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife if there is once again a free weekend in the F1 calendar. In any case, it is already clear from Germany when that would need to be, namely from May 27 to 30, 2027. That is when the next edition of the iconic race is scheduled.
GPblog investigated whether there is already any clarity on whether Formula 1 will also be in action that weekend. However, nothing definitive can be said, as no final decisions have been made for the new F1 calendar. This website understands that it is quite possible there will be a Grand Prix at that time, but that is by no means certain.
Draft F1 calendars circulating online
Incidentally, various Formula 1 websites are circulating calendars for the 2027 season, but GPblog understands these are largely based on assumptions. What is clear, at least, is that the first Grands Prix of ’27 will likely take place in the Middle East, after which the whole circus will move on to Australia, China, and Japan.
The question then is when the races in Miami and Canada will be held. Will they take place around the weekend of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, or will they clash? The race in Montreal in particular could easily become a spoiler for Max Verstappen.
If the Canadian Grand Prix in 2027 is the week before the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, that would likely be good news for Verstappen. In that case, it is very hard to imagine that the Monaco Grand Prix would be run just a week later, as it is now the fixed opener of the European leg of the F1 season. In that scenario, the four-time F1 champion could once again race on the Nordschleife.
Verstappen returns to F1 action in Canada
Set on Notre Dame Island in the St. Lawrence River, Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is uniquely exposed to rapid weather shifts, with temperatures historically ranging from 3°C to 34°C and humidity averaging 74 percent.
That volatility has shaped some of F1’s most dramatic moments, from Gilles Villeneuve’s damaged-wing podium in a downpour in 1981 to Jenson Button’s last-lap win in the four-hour epic of 2011. Even in 2024, storms and heavy showers disrupted practice and kept qualifying on a knife edge.
