After the session, the Red Bull driver went to the medical centre in Melbourne for precautionary checks.
The Dutchman explained he was OK, speaking to GPblog among others: "Yes, all good, I mean I just had to get some X-rays done to see if my hands were ok, but nothing was broken."
Verstappen as a result finished 20th this Saturday, only ahead of two other drivers, Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll, who were unable to complete any laps.

'Never experienced something this'

Reacting to his incident, he continued: "Yeah, I mean I just hit the pedal and the whole rear axle just completely locked, which is, especially with these Formula 1 cars very weird I mean I've never experienced that in my whole life.
"I have no idea where it comes from and I also I didn't speak to the team yet didn't get the time yet," Verstappen concluded.
