Lance Stroll has launched a scathing attack on the F1 2026 regulations despite the agreed tweaks set to be introduced at the Miami GP this weekend. The Aston Martin driver lamented a "sad situation" with regard to the new rules, ones he claims have "destroyed" F1 racing.
Prior to the US race, the FIA introduced a series of changes following widespread criticism of the 2026 regulations. In Miami, the tweaks to be implemented include reduced recharge in qualifying, increased super-clipping power, a boost cap of +150 kW, and aids to slow race starts.
Speaking to media, including GPblog, Stroll was asked what impact the new rules would have on the driving, to which he responded: "Hopefully it's better with all the part throttle and all this stuff that's just destroying the racing, the qualifying laps. So hopefully it's a bit more normal to drive. We don't have to think so much about all the management and lifting coast.
"But I think we're still far away from proper F1 cars and you know pushing flat out without thinking about batteries and this stuff."

Stroll says he watched by-gone eras over April break

It was raised to the Canadian driver whether the new tweaks were just a 'Bandaid' over larger problems with the regulations, to which Stroll was at pains to agree. The 27-year-old also revealed he had been watching videos of F1 eras gone by during the April break.
"I think we're miles off of where we should be. I said we had time off in the break, I was like randomly watching old races and stuff and you know I even at the Monaco Historics on the TV and I heard some Ferrari cars from early 2000s and how good they sounded and how small and nimble.
"And there were some onboards I saw from early or even mid 2000s in the V8 era, V10 era, and then what it looks like versus now it came up on my phone. You hear what it's like now and the character of the cars, and just how much more intense it looked and how much more exciting it looked back then compared to now."

Stroll expressed a desire to return to that era of F1 cars, smaller, nimbler and louder machines, exciting for both fans and drivers alike. The Canadian says he has even heard rumours suggesting F1 could head back in that direction.
"I think, yeah, it's sad, but hopefully we're heading back in that direction.
"I hear rumors about it, I mean, for the next regs, but now we're gonna have to live with these ones for the next 3-4 years, so... I don't know, I don't know what's gonna happen, but hopefully we go back in that direction of loud, fast, light, nimble machines that, you know, are exciting for the fans, exciting for the drivers, you really feel like they're pushing on the limit."
