Lando Norris denied Oscar Piastri pole at Spa for the Belgian Grand Prix as Charles Leclerc beat Max Verstappen in the battle for P3. Alex Albon finished in P5 ahead of George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda.

How it happened

Q1

As the session got underway, two incidents in the pits unfolded. Oliver Bearman and Fernando Alonso were involved in an unsafe release in the pits, with the Stewards dismissing it as not worthy of being investigated.
Nico Hulkenberg then crashed into Lance Stroll as the German sought to merge into the pitlane, breaking his front wing in the process, with the Canadian driver complaining on the radio regarding the Sauber driver's actions. The Stewards did decide to investigate this one after the session.
Piastri and Norris were the first ones to set a fast lap with Carlos Sainz and Oliver Bearman among others, bolting to the pits, waiting for the track to be rubbered in. The Australian as he had done all weekend, pipped his teammate, albeit by a small margin: 0.078s.
Max Verstappen, much like in the Sprint qualifying, split both McLarens. However, as the rest of the grid finished their first round of push laps the order was reshuffled: Charles Leclerc led Carlos Sainz, Liam Lawson, Alexander Albon, Oliver Bearman and Lewis Hamilton.
The McLaren's nevertheless soared to the top with Norris this time getting the upper hand on Piastri by nearly two tenths. Verstappen then jumped to P3 with Yuki Tsunoda leaping to P11, and Lewis Hamilton managing to make it into Q2 in P7 behind teammate Leclerc. However, his lap was deemed to be off track limits, and was thus eliminated.
Eliminated: Lewis Hamilton, Franco Colapinto, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.

Q2

As the drivers completed their first push laps of Q2, Piastri knocked Verstappen's time down by over three tenths. Norris, although quicker than the Dutchman, was no match for his teammate, taking P2.
Leclerc slotted in P4 ahead of Tsunoda in P5, with Russell behind the second Red Bull driver in P6. Albon, Hadjar, Ocon and Lawson rounded off the top ten.
The final round of quick laps saw Bortoleto pip teammate Hulkenberg to gain a spot in Q3, as Hadjar, Russell, Albon andLawson followed suit. Ocon and Bearman were knocked out in P11 and P12 respectively.
Eliminated: Esteban Ocon, Oliver Bearman, Pierre Gasly, Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz.

Q3

In the final part of qualifying Verstappen went to P1, with Piastri edging him ever so slightly, whilst Norris managed to beat the Australian by nearly two tenths of a second. Leclerc placed P4 with Russell in P5 and Tsunoda in P6.
Verstappen then took to the radio that he didn't have the same grip levels as before.
Lawson, Albon, Hadjar and Bortoleto closed off the top ten, with the Brazilian driver seeing his lap deleted for a track limits infringement.
