Hamilton's front row under threat after Piastri impeding investigation

As the Australian began his final flying lap into Turn 1, he came across the seven-time world champion on the racing line, forcing him to lift off.

The seven-time world champion came agonisingly close to claiming what would have been his maiden pole position for Ferrari, only to be denied by Lando Norris by a mere 12 thousandths of a second. Piastri, meanwhile, had to settle for fifth, ending the session almost half a second adrift of his teammate.

Hamilton was not the only driver to come under the stewards' scrutiny after qualifying, with Kimi Antonelli also being investigated for an alleged yellow-flag infringement on his final Q3 lap.

The Italian improved to fourth despite Max Verstappen spinning at the final corner and triggering yellow flags, an incident that also forced teammate George Russell to abandon his final flying lap and settle for seventh on the grid.

Antonelli is now set to appear before the stewards at 18:15 local time, where he will give his version of events as the investigation continues.
