Oscar Piastri made sure to put Mercedes under a bit of pressure after topping the FP2 timing charts in Suzuka, with Kimi Antonelli and George Russell making up the top three. It was a mixed practice for McLaren, however, as Lando Norris experienced issues in his MCL40. The world champion was late to the action for the second time today, and only completed 17 laps, but still finished P4.
Ferraris Leclerc and Hamilton finished P5 and P6 respectively, the SF-26 looked particularly slippery around Suzuka so perhaps the Scuderia have a bit of work to do.
And speaking of drivability issues, it was a tough session for Red Bull, with
Max Verstappen finishing P10 and teammate Isack Hadjar in fifteenth.
Elsewhere, it was a disrupted session for Cadillac and Audi, as both Sergio Perez and Gabriel Bortoleto were very late to get going in FP2. The team reported that Perez' car was being repaired following an FP1 collision with Alex Albon, while Bortoleto emerged for around 10 mins of running.
Meanwhile, Racing Bulls' Arvid Lindblad's session was over really before it even started, as the rookie was suffering from gearbox issues.
