The FIA has announced the outcome of its investigation into Max Verstappen, who overtook Lewis Hamilton under yellow flags during SQ1 of Sprint Qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix.
The incident occurred during SQ1, shortly after Sergio Perez hit the barriers at Turn 5, damaging the front wing of his Cadillac and leaving debris scattered across the circuit. Yellow flags were subsequently waved as marshals dealt with the situation, before Race Control eventually brought out the red flag.
During the yellow-flag period, Verstappen overtook Hamilton, prompting the Ferrari driver to immediately report the incident over team radio. The Red Bull driver subsequently claimed over the radio that he let Hamilton back through, but the stewards nevertheless noted the incident and launched a formal investigation after the session.
Despite the controversy, Verstappen went on to secure pole position for Saturday's Sprint, beating George Russell by just 0.120 seconds, with Charles Leclerc completing the top three.
However, the FIA has ultimately decided not to penalise Verstappen for the incident, allowing the Dutchman to escape without any sanctions. As a result, the Red Bull driver will retain his pole position for Saturday afternoon's Sprint race, with George Russell lining up alongside him on the front row, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri.
