Kimi Antonelli has secured Pole Position for the Monaco GP, giving himself the best possible chance of victory around the iconic, narrow streets of F1’s ‘Jewel in the Crown.’

Pole-sitter Antonelli's quickest lap time in Q3 was enough to edge out Verstappen and Hamilton. Q3 saw a remarkable battle for Pole, with Verstappen only 0.001s behind Mercedes' Antonelli after the first flyers.

Antonelli's time, 1:12.051, was just over four hundredths of a second faster than Verstappen, with the teenage sensation aided by late contact with the barriers from Ferrari's home racer Charles Leclerc.

Speaking post-quali, Antonelli said: "It was one of those laps that we call a magic lap. I was able to put it all together. It was such a close qualifying with Max. The first run of Q3 there was just one millisecond between us.

“But I knew the last lap was good and I was just hoping that it would be enough. It was very close, and I’m very happy with that. Massive thanks to the team because yesterday we struggled a little bit and today we were able to improve massively."

Q1 had been going smoothly until Gabriel Bortoleto's Audi found the barrier at the Nouvelle Chicane, after clipping the wall on entry, and leaving the bottom six with only two minutes to save their session. In the end, of that six, only Williams' Carlos Sainz could get himself out of trouble.

Q2 saw a tense time for George Russell, after he could not improve on P8 - luckily for the Briton, neither the Williams duo, Hulkenberg, Colapinto or Lindblad could improve and failed to make Q3.

At the back of the grid, Aston Martin and Cadillac's woes continued, with both driver pairings failing to make it out of Q1 alongside Haas duo Bearman and Ocon.
